Chapter 3 · The Server PC

Install and assign the Vault Server

Pick the PC at your center that'll host the shared disk. It stays powered on and needs enough free space for your game library. There's no separate "Server installer" to hunt down and no role to choose for this PC specifically. It installs exactly the same way as every other PC in this guide. Which one actually becomes the Server is a choice you make afterward, from the Center panel, not something you commit to at install time.

1. Run the installer on that PC. Double-click LANBearVault.msi and, on the role screen, pick Agent + Vault, the same choice as any other floor PC (see the Agent Setup Guide for the full walkthrough of this screen). It installs as a Windows service and starts automatically, no separate runtime to install first. The wizard also shows the LANBear Software License Agreement (also published at https://lanbear.gg/legal/license). Accept it to continue.
2. Pair its Agent to a Device record, same as any other PC (the Agent Setup Guide covers this too). It needs to show up as a paired Device before the next step will find it.
3. On the Center panel's Vault page, you'll see a list of paired PCs to choose from. Pick this one, and choose:
   • Server only: hosts the library, doesn't also get used for gaming.
   • Server + gaming: hosts the library and is one of your floor PCs too. Common on a smaller floor.
4. That's it: no Cloud Base URL, no code to type anywhere on the PC itself. Within a few seconds it picks up the assignment on its own, restarts, and pairs. The Vault page updates from "Waiting for it to check in" to the full dashboard once that's done.
