Vault Setup Guide

One shared game library, set up right.

The full technical walkthrough: pairing the Vault Server, installing the Node app on every PC, designating an Update PC, and (the step most guides skip) actually publishing what it installs.

Chapter 6 · Center panel

Set your Update PC

On the Center panel's Vault page, open the Machines table. Every paired Node shows up here once it's checked in.

  1. Find the PC you want as your Update PC.
  2. Click Set as update PC on its row.
  3. A blue Update PC badge appears next to it.

Only one PC can hold this at a time. Setting a new one automatically takes it off the old one.

Note

What this actually changes: every PC technically can write locally while it's running. The real difference is what survives a restart. A normal PC's local changes are wiped clean every time it reboots, and that's what makes it effectively "read-only" in practice. The Update PC is the one exception: its changes stick around after a restart, which is what makes it possible to publish them later.
